About me
Hi I’m Helen for those who don’t know me. I am always wanting to learn and explore new things, places, people and question everything and share what I know. But as a clinician and therapist working with people of all ages, I always ask how I can empower the clients without creating a co-dependent relationship? I don’t tell them what they should or should not do but rather support the client to explore for themselves their own answers and truth. In my substack I want to impart knowledge by breaking down information to help readers understand more about themselves and interventions they can access from my personal journey, training and experience within mental health. I am straight talking, compassionate, warm and friendly person with a non-judgemental approach. I love different ways of expressing myself creatively and artistically. I have begun to enjoy writing also! I love anything about energy, healing, therapy, travelling psychology and animals!
What I do?
I am qualified and trained in many roles. I don’t believe in just one approach to support our mind, body and soul but also consider alternative approaches and I also provide holistic therapy. I believe we are more than just our minds and there are different approaches that may resonate with us, depending on what we are trying to achieve. I have always liked to see past the surface of what people tell me about themselves and really hear what they are telling me and listen that gut feeling we have or some might describe as our intuition. I like to use the logic with the creative, meaning that I combine my knowledge from textbooks with guidance from my intuition. You know when you have a feeling about something whether it is right for you or something doesn’t feel right, although evidence may not be present or known to you, but you just know deep down there is a feeling that is impacting on the decision you need to make. That is a tool I have developed and learnt to trust to help me understand when working with people but I use evidence based research for my interventions when using CBT.

My experiences
I found out that I had dyslexia at the age of 28, although I had two degrees by then. I have always felt not smart, never feeling good enough and was always hard on myself. My experience has helped me understand those with neuro difficulties and how they feel about learning, feel about themselves and their environment. Apart from those who have neurodevelopmental difficulties such as ADHD or Autism, I also know what it feels like to feel disempowered, stay small and feel unworthy. As an Asian female, through my own personal challenges I have had to learn what self-love is, unlearn my conditioning from my upbringing, society and family and challenge my thoughts or beliefs. There are so many facets to self-love which I wanted to talk about from my own personal experiences, as there are many lessons I have learnt along the way to understand self-love and how to empower myself.
I leave you with something that has always inspired me and I hope it does the same for you too:
Our Deepest Fear
This inspiring poem is taken from Marianne Williamson's book A Return to Love.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.It's not just in some of us;
It's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.”
